Rate hike granted in Gladewater paving project aired

Gladewater voted unanimously to approve a 16.68 percent overall SWEPCO rate increase, effective Aug 25, affecting 2,428 customers in the 19-county East Texas region. The same night Henderson became the 35th city to be affected by the increase as SWEPCO advances its 64 year program.

Ambassador College Opens with Record Enrollment for 1976-77

Ambassador College in Big Sandy starts its 1976-77 term on Monday August 16 with a record 645 students enrolled. A fresh man class adds 199 students to the total.

A senior medical student from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School Dallas will arrive September 1 to study with Dr. G Robert Hugman and Dr. Glen R Kent in a month long preceptorship aiming to spark interest in family practice in small towns. Dennis Bell Injured In 50-Foot Rig Accident

Dennis Bell 20 remains in fair condition after a Tuesday industrial accident on a 50 foot drilling rig platform northeast of I 20 and SH 14. Bell, employee of RAM Well Services, was rescued by Tyler Smith County Rescue Unit after a drill line socket broke causing the line to fall and fracture his leg. The rescue took about 45 minutes with help from Tyler firefighters and Fire Marshall Shine.

Curtis Bazar died at 70 with rites Saturday

Funeral services were held at White Oak Baptist Church for Curtis Bazar 70 who died Thursday of an apparent heart attack. Burial was in White Oak Cemetery. Survived by widow Thelma a son Kenneth Bazar two brothers four sisters and two grandchildren. Officiating ministers were Rev Bill Voss and Rev Don Shultz.

Services for Mrs Fields

Funeral services for Mrs Frances Emma Fields were held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Tapp Funeral Home Chapel Sulphur Springs. She died Wednesday at 1 45 am in a Gladewater hospital after a short illness. She is laid to rest beside her husband in City Cemetery. She lived at Oak Manor seven years and was a member of Sulphur Springs First Baptist Church. Survived by son James W Fields Wellington sister Nettie Hamilton Garland thirteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

UG budget hearing set for 1976 77 year

Union Grove School board will discuss and vote on the proposed budget of about 415000 at 7 30 p m on August 16 at the school. The figure is roughly 13000 less than last year according to Supt R A Cooper.

K Wolens Sold to Chromalloy in Texas Textile Expansion

K Wolens, Inc. a Texas department store operator with 49 outlets and annual sales near 20 million, is sold to Chromalloy American Corp. Milkes the two firms say the deal becomes effective Friday. Milkes will be chief operating officer and oversee the merged chain, which operates 65 specialty stores under K&G Miss K&G and K-G Bootery names in 17 states.
