White Oak Names New Band Director
Randy Dawson, longtime Garrison band director of 10 years, is appointed White Oak High School band director replacing Ronald Ferguson who resigned Monday. School approves budget and hires five new teachers
Gladewater County Line In dependent School District board unanimously approved the $2,595,301 1976 77 budget at Monday night’s meeting. Superintendent Roy Johnson said debt service will be $207,918 and the district could legally incur up to $25 million. The board also rehired high school band director Don Ledbetter, hired five new staff members, approved low bids for groceries, and adopted the amended budget.

Marshall meeting selects officers for health agency

Burglary Three Times At Goodchild Center
Early Wednesday a youth burglarized Goodchild's Home Decorating Center on U.S. 80 three times. He first entered at about 2 a.m. by the front door, stole a calculator, and later returned to tamper with the adding machine and check writer. A cash box later found in the driveway. Police say clues point to the thief, investigation continuing.

City Council weighs SWEPCO rate study and Lake Gladewater work
The council plans a heavy agenda including a SWEPCO rate request review and a resolution to issue $100 000 of time warrants for Lake Gladewater road improvements. Plans call for 6 2 miles of frontage to be asphalted using city equipment and leased labor with no general revenue tax funds. Lot leasors will cover under 400 over three years. School Board Keeps Student Bus Service To Out Of Town Games
Gladewater school system will continue busing student body members to football games despite the cost and problems. Supt Roy Johnson urged serious consideration of stopping the service. He noted Gladewater is the only area school using buses for games and cited economic strain driver shortages and lighter supervision compared with organized groups.

Batla rites held Monday for Upshur County resident
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 PM in Croley Funeral Home chapel for Minnie M. Batla 67 of Gilmer who died Saturday in a Gilmer nursing home. Burial followed in Union Grove Cemetery. She was a Methodist with one sister Mamie Smith.

Youths Hurt in Two car Crash Near Hawkins
Three youths were hospitalized and four treated and released at Gladewater Municipal Hospital after a two car collision three miles north of U S 80 on FM 2659 near Hawkins. Lucretia McDonald 16 Michael Moss 4 Connie Kilpatrick 14 suffered injuries. Kilpatrick had a broken rib and punctured lung.
