California Mine Produces Benitoite Rare Gem
In the San Benito Mountains California an open face mine yields benitoite the rarest gem. Two Fresno men Elvis Buzz Gray and partner mine the stones using a bulldozer and blasting for blue crystals. Benitoite scores 6.5 on the hardness scale making it fragile yet valued by collectors at about 200 dollars per carat for a one carat stone.
