Gay Avenue starts registration Monday for kindergarten to second grade entering Gladewater schools this September. Office hours are 8 am to 12 and 1 pm to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Apprehend Suspect In Cannon Murder

Gregg County Sheriff Noble Crawford announced that a Gladewater murder suspect is being sent back to Longview for questioning in the March 19 1967 shooting death of grocer J. B. Cannon. Cannon owned Quikie Food Store and Cannon's Saddlery in West Upshur and was found shot beside his pickup. Sulphur Police said Winfred Earl Brewer 24 was arrested on a traffic charge under an assumed name and waived extradition.

Rotary Governor Herr visits Local Club for official talk

Rotary District 581 Governor William E. Herr spoke at the local club on his official visit outlining district projects for the year and urging greater efforts toward Rotary International goals. Introduced by Past District Governor Charles Walker, Herr from Richardson was accompanied by his wife. He has long ties to Richardson including past club president and six years as city planning commission chair. He served in the Navy medical corps during World War II.

Sherry Daniel Named Princess Holiday in Dixie

Sherry Daniel received official word Wednesday afternoon from Holiday in Dixie officials that she is now Princess Holiday in Dixie after Dana Dowell relinquished the title. Daniel, Miss Gladewater, was originally runner up in the April 24 Shreveport pageant. Anne Pylant, previously first runner up, becomes Queen Holiday in Dixie. Daniel will be a sophomore Rangerette at Kilgore College and represent Shreveport at the Sabine Parish Festival in Many, Louisiana.

Gladewater High School Band Plans Organization Meeting

Gladewater High School band will hold an organization meeting Monday August 11 at 6 30 p m in the band room of the Fine Arts Building director Don Cartwright announced Saturday All members new members and prospective members are urged to attend to receive rehearsal schedules and times Uniform issue schedules will be distributed Cartwright noted the twirlers are preparing new routines for next year featuring the Tijuana Brass and hard rock numbers like Hawaii Five-O theme.

Final Story Hour Tuesday For Summer

Gladewater Public Library hosts its final summer storytelling hour on August 12 at 1 p.m. Reading certificates will be awarded to participants who completed the 12 books required by the Texas State Library. Clarksville voters approved a city ordinance closing the old dump on land once owned by Allen Tooke and contracting Southwest Disposal Inc. to handle trash. The measure, effective Monday August 11, bans further city dump use and imposes fines for violations.
