The church league opens Friday night with Latter Day Saints versus Memorial Baptist at 7 p.m. at Bear Park. At 8 p.m. First Christian meets First Baptist, and at 9 p.m. First Methodist faces the winner of the 7 p.m. game. The final playoff night will be set after this week's results.

Cobb Named New Band Director At Union Grove

Union Grove School Superintendent Garland Ferguson announced Tuesday that Gary Cobb is appointed band director, succeeding Jack Butler who left for West Rusk High School. Cobb, a 1964 Atlanta High School graduate, earned a BME from Sam Houston State College and directed Aldine bands in 1968-69.

Edward Chambers Dies in Dallas Rites Wednesday

Edward Red Chambers 75 died Monday night in Dallas Veterans Hospital after a month of hospitalization. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Duncanville with Rogers Funeral Home in charge. Survived by wife Leta and one sister. Longtime Gladewater resident and oil field contractor before retiring. In ill health the past year.

Gregg County Seniors Golf Association schedules a 54 hole medal play tournament at Longview Country Club August 19 21 22 with eight players per flight and a championship flight for low handicappers age 50 plus. Flights by age 50 54 55 59 60 64 65 69 and 70 plus. Entry is $5 due by August 18.

White Oak Band Nominated To March In Rose Parade

The White Oak High School Band, a 120 member unit, won a unanimous school board vote to accept an invitation to perform in the 1970 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena California. Band director Jerry Hanszen called the honor one of the greatest.
