President Gerald Ford arrived at Gregg County airport at 10 10 pm beginning a four day Texas tour. A crowd of over 500 welcomed him as he greeted supporters along the fence after a brief press conference. He noted he considered himself the underdog in Texas but said they were gaining ground before the November election.

H H Smith 68 a Gladewater resident for 44 years died Tuesday at his Rt 2 home after a brief illness. Funeral services will be Thursday at 4 pm at Assembly of God Church with Rev Don Puckett officiating. Burial in East Mountain Cemetery under Malcolm Stone Funeral Home. Survivors include his widow Odessa a daughter Mrs Curtis Morgan Longview three brothers Shorty Eskar Haram Smith all of Soper Okla two sisters Mrs Gladys Pillers and Mrs Agnes Herman both of Soper two grandchildren one great grandchild several nieces and nephews Pallbearers listed.

M. H. Cooper Dies at 74 in Gladewater
Funeral rites were held Wednesday for Mark Henry Cooper 74 of 216 South Ferry at Malcolm Stone Chapel with Rev. B F Risinger Jr officiating. Buried at Memorial Park. He died Monday in a Sulphur Springs Nursing Home after a long illness. He was born January 4, 1902 in Paris and was a retired police officer. Survivors include four sons Bobby Walter Norman and Kenneth. two sisters Lola Partain and Bertha Wortham. six grandchildren. Pallbearers were police officers Jimmy Davis Bill Wells David Blear James Maxwell Larry Clark and Robert Keller.

Armco Steel employees donated labor and about 3500 dollars in materials to revamp Gladewater Youth Baseball Association facilities on East Pacific. Four dugouts got new roof decking, a press box was refurbished and a new press box built as part of a Founders Day project honoring George M Verity.
