Memorial Baptist Church hosts a Wednesday 8:30 p.m. April 30 meeting to launch an all church slow pitch softball league for Gladewater with invited representatives from area churches. Burglaries Hit Gladewater Across Several Spots
A string of burglaries struck Gladewater over three days with items stolen from car stereos to lingerie. Cannon's Saddlery at 904 W Upshur and Premier Service Station on Highway 80 suffered break ins, money and goods reported stolen, and entry gained by smashed glass or broken windows. An attempted burglary at Pioneer Liquor Store and a two car accident with injuries near Gay Avenue and U S 271 were also reported.

Funeral Services Friday Afternoon For Mrs. Crouch
Funeral services for Mrs. Jake Mary Beth Crouch 55 of 403 Phillips Dr were held Friday at 4 p m in the First Methodist Church. The Rev James Brannen officiated and burial followed in Memorial Park under Malcolm Stone Funeral Home. Mrs. Crouch died Wednesday after a stroke and surgery at St Elizabeths Hospital Beaumont while visiting her son Bob and his wife Barbara. She had lived in Gladewater 19 years, previously Hughes Springs. She was active with Beta Sigma Phi and taught Sunday School at First Methodist. Survived by husband J N sons Bob Beaumont James Jr Greenville a brother Warren Berrett Dallas two sisters Mrs Maurine Amis Austin Mrs Cecil Johnston Emory and two grandchildren James Crouch III Molly Catherine Greenville. Pallbearers were Johnny Osteen Quentin Abernathy Jim Holcomb Joe Jones Curtis Bright John Shipp.

UG Band Concert caps busy Union Grove year with top ratings
The Union Grove High School Band earned 1st division in Sight Reading and 2nd in Concert at the University Interscholastic League contest in White Oak April 22-24 led by director Jack Butler. UG led Class B in Sight Reading and had top concert rating, plus a season of trophies including Outstanding Band at the East Texas Yamboree and 46 first division medals at the East Texas State University Solo and Ensemble Contest Commerce.
