City Council Called Meeting On Gravel Purchase And Rules

The city council will meet in a called session Tuesday April 26 at 7 30 p m to review bids for about 1000 truckloads of iron ore gravel and to hear a recommendation from City Manager Tony N Williams. A workshop on rules of order and parliamentary procedure will also be held. the session is open to the public.

Police clear burglaries in Gladewater four juveniles named

Gladewater police cleared two burglaries Friday with four juveniles detained. Det. Sgt. Bill Brown said two were nabbed inside a south side apartment and two others were questioned in a vandalism case at a local home. The youths were released to parents and ordered to appear at Gregg County Juvenile Probation on Monday.

Walkers Injured in Ft Worth Car Truck Crash

Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Walker were hospitalized in Harris Hospital Ft Worth after a Thursday afternoon crash when their car was struck from behind by a truck. They suffer back injuries and may be in hospital several days. Mrs Walker reports no broken bones and plans are to return to the area soon while Mr Walker remains bedfast.

GHS students compete in regional UIL events Arlington

Gladewater High School lists participants for regional UIL events in Arlington with names across girls track events including mile relay long jump and sprints, boys track including relays and field events, tennis doubles, and district literary winners advancing to region. Several students are named for specific events such as Vicki Bittner in the 440 dash and Donna Jackson in debate and Donna Jackson and Tamma Holmes in ready writing and prose.

Local grocer freed by cops

Jack Earp, a local grocer, arrived at the police station in handcuffs after mistaking his son’s toy details for real restraints. Unable to find a key, officers attempted a lock pickup before Officer Carl Gage finally freed him by picking the lock. His wife remains upset as daylight saving time begins tonight.

Scout Cub Training and Tractor Safety Programs

Four Glade men held for railroad equipment theft

Four Gladewater men were arrested and charged with felony theft over $200 and under $10,000. James Cureton, Stanley Cureton, Randall Calloway, and Charlie Manning were arraigned in Gregg County with bonds set at 3000 each. The stolen rail spikes hooks and switching plates valued at 5000 were recovered from a local salvage firm. thefts occurred April 18 to 22.
