Freight service denied for Gladewater by Texas Railroad Commission
Gladewater residents and local merchants urged approval for Central Freight Lines to begin service to Gladewater. Burglaries Cleared by Police Here in Gladewater
Gladewater police cleared three burglaries this week with three men arrested. Jessie Tucker, 20, of Brownsville, inside Thriftyman Pantry with a 14 year old. Tucker arraigned, bond set at 5000. Darnell Rudewick, 23, of a local motel, turned himself in and posted 3000 bond after arrest for City Grocery burglary.

United Fund selects Jack Earp as president for 1975 76
At the Chamber of Commerce meeting, Jack Earp was elected president of the United Fund for 1975 76. Molly Abercrombie and Marilyn Godfrey were named first and second vice presidents with Carson Kennedy as treasurer and Jo Wiley as secretary. John Albert Chasteen Rites Held for 67 Year-Old Oilhand
Funeral services for John Albert Chasteen 67 were conducted Wednesday at 2 p m in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with the Rev B F Risinger Jr officiating. Burial followed at Rock Springs Cemetery. Chasteen a retired oilfield worker born June 2 1907 died Monday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. He resided in Gladewater for years and his wife died in February. Survived by two sons James of the city and Richard of Eagle River Alaska, three daughters Elvina Cody Nora Collette and Jackie Erwing all of Eagle River, one grandson 16 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. Also survived by sister Mrs Woodrow Houston Holdenville Okla and brother Iva Chasteen Farris Okla. Pallbearers Wayne Pope Dennis Gage Gary Speed John Murray Ronnie Moore Billy Bratcher James Rose.

Jaycee Park improvements along with new boat registration rules were approved by the lake board Monday night and will be sent to the city council Thursday. If council approves, work should start immediately with completion by end of school. Tony Williams credited the East Texas Area Council of Governments planning section. Playground upgrades include two ships and a fort built from city bought utility poles. Two oil surfaced parking areas will be laid and traffic patterns updated.

Dr. G. Robert Hugman and Garth Cockerell were returned to the Gladewater County Line Independent School Board. Hugman won 183 total votes across four boxes. Cockerell totaled 185. Mrs. Ann McKenzie as write in received six votes in Gladewater and six in Friendship.

Surprise Utah trip upends Texas couple’s Easter plan
Thelma and Harry Grayson surprised each other when their Houston trip for Easter broke into a longer journey to visit their son Air Force Capt. Phil Grayson in Ogden Utah. They flew four days to see him, enjoyed cold weather, snow and tourist fare, and returned with Utah rocks and unfinished chores at home.
