Man charged in burglary of a vehicle case

Johnny Edward Gordon was arraigned before Judge Jack Finley on burglary of a vehicle charge. Gordon remained in Gregg County jail Wednesday in lieu of a $2000 bond. Det Sgt Bill Brown and Officer Ken Garriott arrested him Sunday afternoon on a warrant. the alleged offense occurred March 12 and involved a CB radio from a Gladewater man’s car.

Gladewater voters elect four to city council and school boards

Gladewater city voters last Saturday returned three incumbents and a newcomer to the city council in a moderate turnout of 945 ballots plus 29 absentee. Mayor James Walker, Councilmen James Goggans and Roy Pynes were reelected, Harold Wells won his first term. Council results list Wells 399, McKain 392, Eichel 29, Irwin 155, Palmer 140, Lange 241, McPherson 185, Goggans 463, Pynes 452, Walker 445. canvass completed April 4 and sworn-in April 14. In the school board race Jack Finley, Jack Earp and John Steger won unopposed seats in Gladewater ISD. Union Grove district reelects E S Truitt with Bobby Davis also elected.

Easter Sunrise Service at First United Methodist

The Easter sunrise service sponsored by the Gladewater Ministerial Alliance will be held Sunday at 6 30 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. The Rev LaVerne Rudolph will deliver the message with Wanda Marlowe and C W Dawson assisting in song and prayer. All area residents are invited to attend.

Cary fund started by Gladewater police association

Gladewater Police Association members voted to establish a fund to help Richard Cary with hospital and medical costs from a lengthy illness. About 30 members and spouses attended. Cary has been hospitalized locally and then at Scott & White in Temple. An organizing committee was named and the fund began with a $150 total donation. Plans for fundraising included bake sales and a rummage sale.

Child Find Project Survey Begins in Gladewater ISD

A door to door survey started April 4 in Gladewater Independent School District to locate handicapped children ages three to 21 not in school. Four canvassers Walter Derrick Jack Murphy Butch Wills and Frank Setzler will cover the Gladewater area under Region VII ESC supervision with TEA support.

George Hudson Dies Saturday

Funeral services were held Monday for George Hudson 69 of 316 Taylor who died Saturday in a local hospital. The Rev. Leon Grissom conducted final rites at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Gladewater Memorial Park. He had owned Quality Cleaners 18 years and was linked with City Cleaners four years. native of Antlers Oklahoma. Surviving are his widow Ivy, a brother William Hudson and a sister Virginia Merritt. plus two nephews and three sisters-in-law.

Mrs. Millie Catherine McDonald Dies at 86

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. for Millie Catherine McDonald 86 of 1101 Hackberry. Rev. David Crosby led services at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Gladewater Memorial Park. Survived by two sons two daughters a brother 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Rites Held for Overton Teacher Ora King

Funeral services were held for Ora Starr King 58 of Leverett’s Chapel at Kilgore Baptist Church with two ministers officiating burial followed at Starr Cemetery. King who taught art physical education and social studies was stabbed at her mother's home by Victoria Sheffield who faces murder charges. The autopsy said she died from multiple stab wounds and the stabbing occurred after an argument. King had taught for 38 years and lived in the area all her life.
