A community meeting in Gladewater High School outlined July 28 to August 4 events for the Centennial. Attendees signed up for divisions. planners urged forms be mailed to the Centennial Building. Hagerty of John B. Rogers Co coordinated the 8 day celebration and Gladewater 100 show.

In a light city election, three incumbents won two year terms and James Goggans, a first time candidate, captured the council seat with 290 votes. George Thomas got 277 and James Walker and Melvin Jenkins each had 266. Johnnie Gregory fell short with 129 of 366 votes. Larry Aaron received two write ins. No absentee ballots reported. Canvass held Wednesday afternoon.
