Million Dollar Mill May Go To Florence
Florence Times reports a New York mill family plans a $1,000,000 industrial plant with 3,000 workers, including 1,500 skilled, offering a $25,000 weekly payroll. They seek Florence, other Carolina and Georgia sites, railroad access, nearby cotton, ready labor, and local inducements. A council chamber meeting of business leaders and citizens is planned.

Dr Jexyl and Mr Hyde Trial Opens in Raleigh
In Raleigh on September 30 the trial of Dr Thomas Rowland and his second wife Lillie for the murder of locomotive engineer Charles Strange began. Prosecution alleges they poisoned Strange to wed, with doctors claiming Rowland led a double life as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and once attempted to poison his own child for insurance.

Three Miners Die in Alabama Tenn Gas Explosion Near Pratt
A gas explosion in No 7 mine of Tennessee Coal Iron and Railroad Co near Pratt Tennessee killed three workers and fatally injured two others. The deceased are George Howard assistant mine foreman Mike Nicola Italian miner and Jim Metteo Negro miner. The fatally injured are Jim Matten Italian miner W Webb Negro miner. An accumulation of gas in an interior slope caused the incident. The mine reportedly suffered no major damage. Separately a riot case against Hatfield Douglas and others of Darlington, linked to efforts to drive Mormon elders from Darlington, was settled.
