Winyale High School Commencement and Seaboard Land Purchase

Last evening the Winyale High School graduation drew about eight hundred attendees as graduates received diplomas from Board of Trustees chair Jos Schenk. The ceremony featured salutations, a debate on public school Medical Inspection, and comments by local officials. Separately, Drum Island near Mount Pleasant is reported bought by Seaboard Air Line to enable ferry service and expansion toward Charleston, though officials gave no confirmation.

A man detained in Clay City Ky on suspicion of being Wesley Edwards, a Hillsville court house suspect, denies his identity claiming the name Hathley and listing West Virginia origins. An officer from Hillsville will identify him, another accomplice fled toward Lexington.

Both Young Women Perish in Island Drowning Attempt

Ellen O Rourke a young attendant at Manhattan State Hospital on Ward s Island died trying to save her roommate Margaret Hughes from drowning off the islands southern edge. O Rourke grabbed Hughes as she sank but overbalanced and both were dragged under in a desperate struggle.
