Belton June 12 reports Jack Frost hit young cotton plants Monday morning. Frost in June is rare in this county, yet farmers from nearby areas observed the damage as top crops show the ill effects.
Asheville jury returns not guilty verdicts for seven defendants in the Myrtle Hawkins murder case after a trial that began May 21 in Hendersonville. The acquittals, greeted by a crowd with emotional scenes, leave the Lake Osceola death mystery unresolved. Myrtle Hawkins, about 17, was identified as the victim. allegations centered on illegal operation and body disposal.
Camden June 13. Mr. C. M. Mosley of Westville reports from a quarter acre $140 in strawberries sold mostly at 10 cents a quart and expects $35 more this season. Previous yields on the same tract include $50 two years ago and $25 last year. Dry conditions caused the last year short crop. He projects a $150 net after $250 in gathering costs. The land, once low value, now sells for 20 25 dollars per acre. Mosley compares his yield to Jerry Moore and Miss Gunter crops widely publicized recently.

An ad touts Bucklen's Arica Salve as a swift remedy for burns, cuts, bruises, boils, ulcers, eczema, sore lips and piles. It asserts rapid healing for wounds and injuries from July Fourth accidents and consumer discounts at 25 cents from all druggists.
Eugene H Grace, shot at his Atlanta home in March and partially paralyzed, underwent surgery to remove a bullet believed to have severed his spinal cord. Doctors found the spinal cord intact, with the bullet embedded in a vertebra pressing on the cord. Grace showed no alarming symptoms and is expected to recover. his wife Daisy Opie Grace, formerly of Philadelphia, is free on bond with trial set for the week of June 24.
