Mary Ferris is named co chairman of the Geauga heart fund canvass organized by the Chardon Aquarians. Rocco Dragonette as village chairman assigns duties to Mona Fowler Dorothy Steffancin Joanne Steffancin John Rumick Phil King and Maxine Street to solicit districts and mail to groups. Jay Cees lead in placing plastic hearts in business establishments.

Charlotte Welton Honored on 90th Birthday

Mrs. Charlotte McCallum Welton turned 90 on February 11 1952 born 1862 on Burton Township Burton Station Road. She taught 45 years in Burton Cleveland and Wilson Junior High and traveled to Europe twice. A Scotch tea hosted by the Tuesday club was held at her North Cheshire Street home with guests and performances by local ladies.

Geauga Central Republican backs Dinsmore for Prosecutor

The Geauga Republican Central committee endorsed James W. Dinsmore, Chardon attorney, for prosecutor at a meeting in Auburn. The move marks party opposition to incumbent H. K. Bostwick’s reelection bid. Dinsmore was the only local candidate to receive endorsement.

Ralph Ford Seeks Geauga County Treasurer Post

Burton candidate Ralph B. Ford announces his Republican bid for Geauga County treasurer. He was educated in Cleveland schools and at the University of the South and Spencerian College. Ford worked in rubber firms, served in the War Department, aided Red Cross First Aid, and held roles with the Burton Chamber, Geauga Historical Society, Justice of the Peace, and County Fair program chair.

Plan Changes in Aquilla Building Code

Aquilla council discussed changes to permit lower priced homes. They warned of extensive preliminary work and urged residents to attend meetings to express views. An appropriation of 5600 dollars for 1952 was approved and Haueter authorized to continue filling holes on the roads. Police caps for officers were approved.

David Willson Buys Chardon Jewelry Shop

David Willson of Willoughby purchased Albert's Jewelry Store from Albert Berger. Willson plans to keep the name and has worked in the shop since last July. An expert repairman, he previously worked for a prominent Painesville jeweler and now lives in Willoughby hoping to move to Chardon. Berger is in Cleveland and out of the jewelry business.

Benjamin Longyear Rites Held In Chesterland

Benjamin Longyear aged 75 died in a Cleveland hospital on February 7 after years of illness. Born in New York state he learned meat cutting at age 12 and worked in Chesterland for 13 years at H. A. Ditto. Survived by wife Hattie and son Harry of New Haven with grandchildren and a stepdaughter. Funeral service February 9 at William J. Donlon Funeral Home. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery.
