The Pomona Grange monthly gathering relocates from Hampden Grange to Burton High School auditorium this Saturday December 15. The open meeting will award achievements to Geauga county subordinate Granges and members are asked to bring sandwiches or cake.
A daughter Denise Jean was born to Mr and Mrs Jack Verhunce Jr of North Street at Booth Memorial Hospital Cleveland on December 4 weighing seven pounds. A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Robert Johnson of Montville on December 8 at Corey Hospital. A daughter Laura Jane was born to Mr and Mrs Warren J Jevnikar 332 South Street on December 6 at St Luke s Hospital. Mr and Mrs John Verhunce Jr Doris Boerwinkle North Street Chardon are the parents of a daughter born December 4 1951 in Booth Memorial Hospital.
The Chardon JayCees organize toy repair at the Youth Center Booster field to supply needy families. Volunteers are asked to assist Friday night or Monday Wednesday and Friday at 7 30 p m. A home lighting contest offers prizes for originality and harmony with the house. Santa plans a Main Street ladder entrance and gift distribution with details to follow in next week’s paper.
Mrs. Jennie Cook Loomis aged 79 formerly of Chester died in a Houston hospital on December 3 after years of ill health She had summered in Denver with a daughter and returned to Houston last fall She was a poet and mother of four daughters and three sons survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren Burial occurred in Houston
Mrs. Thomas B. Kiser, former Chardon and Hampden resident, died November 3 at her Lakewood home. Born Sadie Gerner June 13, 1871 in Deersville Ohio, she married Thomas B. Kiser October 19, 1899 in Scio. Funeral services were held in Chardon November 6, 1951 with interment in Hambden Cemetery. Rev L. O. Dauds presided.
Winterland Inc. relocates three and a half miles west of Bass Lake to Wilson Mills Road, formerly Pineway Trails, with expanded facilities including three hills for skiing, two rope tows, a horse drawn bob sled, a longer toboggan chute, an ice skating pond with music, sleigh rides, a lodge with a fireplace, and party services. Monetta Harland wife of former Sheriff Stewart Harland says in a written statement that resignation was to protest jail rules set by Common Pleas Judge William K Thomas. She criticizes the rules as inhuman vulgar and an invasion of a sheriff home and thanks supporters for standing by them.
William H Cromwell longtime Geauga County leader dies after prolonged illness at his Parkman home. Republican figures, county commissioner 14 years, Ohio County Commissioners Association president, Middlefield Banking vice president, operator of Cromwell's store for 50 years. Survived by wife Lora daughter Mrs Frank Edwards, brother Arthur J, sisters Mamie Weber and Myrtle Sparrow. Services held Tuesday at 1 30 p m at his residence.
Mrs. Mary Mausling died after a long illness at her Montville home. Funeral held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Chardon Burr Funeral, age 78. She is survived by two sons Will and Ernest, three daughters Theresa Dimick Minnie Hoffman and Marie Baker, 14 grandchildren 25 great grandchildren, two brothers E A Stapel and Carl Stapel. Burial Montville Cemetery on the family lot.
Mr and Mrs Ray Thrash er and daughter Sally depart for Honolulu to aid Mr Thrasher health leaving Chardon law office Thrasher and Dinsmore in charge under James Dinsmore. They rent their Goodrich Court home to the Dinsmores for a year while Chad Thrasher and his wife Pamela plan a December departure to join them. Chad, a Chardon radio and TV dealer, rents his Center Street business and home to Henry Klatka for a year.

Funeral service for Harland Barnum who died December 1 in Montville was held Tuesday at Spear Funeral Home Painesville with Rev. Ray S. Utterback officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers named and surviving family listed. Montville attendees included several relatives and neighbors.
Cpl John Grantham returns on an eight day leave from Hampden to spend time with his family before departing Saturday for Ft Lawson Washington for reassignment. His father, Lloyd Grantham of the U S Navy, comes home on a two day pass to visit his son who he has not seen since New Year’s Day. Lloyd serves at Great Lakes and is part of the Great Lakes Training Center football squad traveling across the United States and Mexico. He soon heads to sea.
