Bishop A R Capener presided over Sunday services with hymns and prayers. Johann Clark was presented for ordination as Elder while Elizabeth King left the Y M I A as first counselor. Six girls sang The Good Old USA and Burdett Smith spoke on Patriotism.

Prizes for Garland Lots by Ladies' Self-Culture Club

The Ladies' Self-Culture Club offers prizes for best kept lots in Garland for 1909 with a 100 point perfect score. Categories include Cleanliness Size of Lot General surroundings Front Yard Back Yard Sidewalks and Approaches to Residence Flowers and Shrubbery Improvements Sanitary Conditions Orchard and Garden. Judges will inspect the town monthly through October 1.

Champions Defeat Ogden In Open City Park Tilt

Champions edged Ogden at City Park ball grounds Tuesday in a tight contest that showcased strong plays from both sides. Al Davis, once champion wrestler of the 4th, lost a match to Ed Wilcox of Fielding in a noteworthy postgame bout.

Deweyville 4th of July Celebration a Success

Deweyville held a lively July 5 celebration with sunrise salute and flag raising. A hall program, free children's dance, afternoon sports, a ball game with Honeyville halted by a sprained ankle, grand ball, and many visitors marked the day. A newborn girl to Silas Marble was noted. racing, contests, prizes, and orchestral music capped the festivities.

Garland Fourth of July Celebration Draws Big Crowd

Garland observed Independence Day with fireworks from 1 a m July 5 to 1 p m July 6. Flags adorned Sugar Factory and local businesses as East Garland’s Military Band provided music at the band stand and City Park. A matinee between Juniors and business men drew 12 to 5 with a crowd. records show key players and scores.
