Lee Richardson Zoo Edventures for 2024 Summer
Hands on educational programs for children with animal encounters games crafts and snacks. Each five day session costs 35 dollars and runs from 8 am to noon. First and second graders have Shapes of Apes and Funky Monkeys June 15 19 and Monkey Basics June 20 24. Third and fourth graders feature Simian Splash June 22 26 and Garden City Jones and the Temple of Zoo July 13 17. Fifth and sixth graders join Chimp Chat and Gorilla Gossip July 6 10. Garden City Community College announces Deanna Mann and Ryan Ruda will become deans on July 1, filling Beth Tedrow's executive dean of student services role. Mann will lead institutional effectiveness and enrollment services, plus admissions and financial aid, while Ruda oversees student services, counseling, testing, activities, and health and disability accommodations. Both have long GCCC tenure and will share leadership of the Student Services Division to control costs.

Real life lesson for Lakin students at Home Depot field trip
More than 50 sixth graders from Lakin joined a twofold Extreme Home Makeover field trip led by Wendy Hill to Home Depot and her own house measurements. Students practiced real world math and budgeting while comparing materials for a home project, learning about durability weather suitability and cost saving, with guidance from Tom Bachman and parent volunteers.

Kansas highway officials announced plans to install median cables on broad four lane divided freeways to lower crossover crashes after deadly accidents on I 435 and Kansas 10. The program begins on US 75 north of Topeka in spring 2010 and on Kansas 96 near Wichita later in 2010 with $125000 per mile cost.

Siemens outlines plan for wind turbine plant in Hutchinson
Siemens AG plans a 300000 square foot wind turbine nacelle assembly plant in Hutchinson Kansas with 400 jobs and an 80000 square foot service center on a 102 acre site. Construction starts late this year with hiring in 2010 and two shifts by mid 2011. The goal is $1.5 to $2 billion in Hutchinson wind turbine sales with 90 percent in dollars by 2012. The project will showcase wind energy and involve training from Denmark's Brande facility.
