Lawrence Residents Won't Get Federal Aid for Cleanup
Lawrence residents will recover from last weekend's severe weather without federal disaster aid, as only 12 homes in the city show 40 percent uninsured damage. The federal threshold is 25 homes, leaving renters and homeowners without rental assistance or grants. Douglas County estimates place property losses and local expenses at 4 to 7 million dollars, possibly rising to 8 million with all figures in, including 6 million for KU storm costs. The University of Kansas is self-insured and will seek a state budget amendment for repairs.
