Louisville mother given life term in four child murders
Shavonda Charleston, 22, will spend life in prison after entering an Alford plea in Jefferson Circuit Court. She was sentenced by Judge Stephen Ryan after admitting there is enough evidence for a conviction. Four counts of capital murder were charged for the deaths of her children Dashay Jones, Danesha Jones, Jaquanda Smith, and Davonda Jones. The three older children died after being found unconscious in her apartment on March 26, 2000, at Kosair Children's Hospital. Davonda Jones’s death in October 1999 had been investigated after initially being labeled Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
