Finney County faces steep revenue losses as natural gas declines
Dick a long-time Finney County accountant warns the southwest Kansas region will see a seismic economic shift as gas wells dry. He estimates county budgets could drop 20 to 80 percent over 10 to 15 years, with Stevens and Grant at highest risk and Finney less severe due to diversification. He notes irrigation dependence on gas and legacy lease terms for domestic use complicate the transition. He stresses heightened awareness and possible litigation over mineral rights and irrigation pressures.
