Cuts Hit Junior College Athletics Across Nation
Economic woes push two-year colleges to cut or suspend teams and programs. Chelsea Collins, Woodville High School alumna, saw Jefferson State Community College drop softball, then Northwest Shoals halt sports. State-by-state belt-tightening follows, with NJCAA noting six of 517 members cutting sports. Mississippi, St Louis, Alabama, and California report multiple program eliminations, while others consolidate or curb schedules to save funds.
