Family mourns death of 15-year-old Jessica Shearer
Jessica Lee Shearer, a Garden City teen who recently moved to Great Bend, was found dead in a basement July Fourth. Police arrested Joseph J. Rykiel, 30, on suspicion of second degree murder and aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Family friends recall her outgoing nature and love of horses. Rykiel rented a room in the home of Jackie McHolland and Mary Coker since February 23. The case involves Barton County Youth Care Home and ongoing investigation.
