City to review out of city electric rate policy
City commissioners agreed to review the ordinance that charges out of city limits customers 25 percent more for electricity. Mrs. Dale Koster objected she was unaware of switches from Wheatland Electric to Garden City and only learned of changes when crews worked near her home. City Manager Deane Wiley said the higher rate has been in effect since the 1960s to cover costs of taking over service, purchasing lines, and maintaining it. The city serves 22 outside accounts plus all airport lines. A policy revision is planned for January.
