K-9 unit patrols with officer and dog Flex
Ptacek, a Garden City officer, and his police dog Flex patrol Walmart and Dillons for shoplifters and wear a 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. shift. Flex aids in vehicle stops, aids in drug detection, and toured Victor Ornelas Elementary School for a K-9 demonstration. Crime reports drop since Ptacek joined the force and gang numbers fall from 500 in 1999 to about 200 now. Ptacek values training, with dog cost at 8500 and 10 week program at 5000. 20 to 30 percent washout.
