Stolen Pit Bulls From Finney County Shelter

Two pit bulls were stolen from Garden City Animal Shelter between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9:15 a.m. Wednesday. Police report the burglary involved a cage cut open at 206 Isabel Ave. Value is about 400 dollars. Shelter attendant Karen Casanova said the dogs were there for violating kennel rules and lacked registration and warning signs. The case remains under investigation.

Three injured in two vehicle crash near Copeland

A two vehicle collision two miles west of Copeland sent three people to St. Catherine Hospital. Janae E. Koehn 18 was driving a 2000 Ford north when it failed to yield to an oncoming 1987 Lincoln Town car driven by Richard W. Tatman 50 with passenger Mary E. Tatman 38 both of St. John not wearing seat belts. All three were transported. Koehn and Richard Tatman released, Mary Tatman in fair condition. The crash occurred at U.S. Highway 56 and Haskell County Road XX.

Finney County Fair fills weekend in Garden City crowd draws

The Finney County Fair runs through Sunday at the Finney County Fairgrounds with a free 6 p.m. barbecue Friday and a schedule of chain saw carving by Jeff Klatt beginning Friday. He will carve daily with silent auctions ending Sunday at 3 p.m. The international food court opens Friday with 12 vendors, and Friday and Saturday feature entertainment and activities including lawn mower races and a demolition derby. Sunday hosts a kids pedal tractor pull.

Garden City unveils merged computer lab and programs

Garden City Community College introduces a combined Business Networking and Telecommunications program with A and Cisco classes in a new lab in room B-144. The program supports hardware and software troubleshooting, LAN and WAN networks, and uses removable hard drives to share computers between classes.

Holcomb Water Warning Clarified After Bacteria Found

Officials say Holcomb water remains safe after two of eight July samples tested positive for coliform bacteria from a single home. Humidifier hookup error fixed, five subsequent samples were negative, and no E coli or fecal bacteria detected. The city’s testing continues and a letter explained coliforms are common indicators, not necessarily harmful.

OSHA Fines Total 130000 At Holcomb Plant For Multiple Violations

OSHA issued over 120000 in fines to Tyson Fresh Meats plant in Holcomb for a range of violations. Repeats included missing guard rails and machine guarding issues with ironworking equipment. Health section cited five serious violations including improper respirator selection and hazardous area labeling. Total penalties include 39000 in prior fines and a 10500 health fine, with no fines for the other health citation.
