U S 83 Crack Repair Set to Start Next Week

The Kansas Department of Transportation will begin a crack repair project on U S Highway 83 in Finney and Scott counties Monday. Traffic through the work zone will be reduced to one lane under a pilot car, with delays under 15 minutes. Huff Sealing Corporation of Albion Illinois is the contractor at a cost of $217,521, with completion expected in October.

KCSL Holds Finney County Head Start Open House

The Kansas Children's Service League invites the public to open houses at Garden City Head Start locations on Monday from 10 am to 2 pm and 4 to 7 pm. Visits will showcase classrooms, staff, and facilities at Ballinger Street, N Eighth Street, and East Highway 50. Parents can enroll with birth certificates and proof of income.

FHSU Alumni Board Adds Four Directors

Fort Hays State University announces four new directors for its Alumni Association. Dan Sharp of Healy leads Sharp Brothers Seed Co with a four year term. FBI uses highway billboards to track Fake Beard Bandit

Federal investigators deploy electronic billboards across Kansas Missouri and Oklahoma to capture a suspect linked to seven robberies in the region. The “Fake Beard Bandit” targeted banks in Olathe Joplin Shawnee and Oklahoma through late May to July. The suspect is described as 25 to 35 years old, 5 8 to 6 feet tall, 150 to 180 pounds, often wearing sunglasses then a fake beard during robberies.

Finney County Extension budget hearing on Monday

Finney County commissioners will hear from Extension Council members about 2012 budget cuts at 8:30 a.m. at the Administrative Center. They previously reduced funding to 200,000, with 210,000 this year reflecting 1997 levels. A public hearing will precede finalizing the 2012 budget and mill levy of 36,898, expected to raise 17.9 million in property taxes.
