Families add mother in law suites to home aging needs
In Los Angeles and Indianapolis areas families convert homes to aging in place living. Betsy McCann and Jim Forbes add a 400 square foot master suite for Lois Brokus while Jane and William Merrill convert a garage for 81 year old Jane Merrill. Architects and builders report rising demand for granny flats and accessory dwellings as 3.5 million households include aging parents and adult children. Certified Aging in Place Specialists trained by AARP and the National Association of Home Builders are helping shape these adaptations.
