Lightning Claims Life Near Milledgeville During Friday Storm
George Kroehler of Milledgeville was killed by lightning while resting near a water tank after attending the Sterling fair. He fell into the shallow tank as the bolt struck and his body was recovered after a search that extended to two o clock. Coroner Dr. Schreitter of Savanna led a jury that ruled death by lightning.

Black Jack mine to resume operations in Galena district

Laborers Scarce Halts Erection of New House Near Elizabeth
C J Baumgartner, the contractor, just back from Elizabeth, says labor is very scarce. He planned a handsome new house for a farmer nearby but cannot find workers locally or nearby, delaying cement walks and macadam projects as ore mines in the district produce $4,000 worth of ore in three weeks. He notes Elizabeth is prosperous but miners are scarce, suggesting twenty five experienced or unexperienced miners could immediately obtain work in the village or at Dubuque.
