Suicide verdict followed Pulford shooting case

The coroner's jury in Savanna found Bothwell Pulford's death a suicide after the murder of Daniel Berry by a milkman, Edward Posey testified he saw Pulford flee the opera house, and authorities foresee no further prosecution. Brick Paving Planned for Main Street Galena

A large petition signed by prominent Galena citizens urges brick paving on Main Street between Perry and Washington. The city will lay No 1 paving brick with curb and foundation, property owners paying one third of paving costs while the city covers two thirds and intersections. Excursion From Platteville Normal School Arrives in Galena

A hundred fifty students from Platteville State Normal, led by botany and geology professors, arrive in Galena by steamer Frontress for a Mississippi research trip. They plan stops along the route to study geologic bluffs and local flora with short talks. Some members returned from Dubuque to see a ball game. others depart for home this evening after leaving Galena at eight.

Natives Round Up Short Change Grafters in Two Towns

Cuba City and Hazel Green natives chased and captured a con man dubbed Frank A. Martin who swindled D S Co out of 10 dollars and defeated the Hazel Green postmaster for a similar amount. Martin was jailed on 1250 dollar bail after arrest at Mineral Point and Platteville for trial this fall. accomplice James Malone was released on similar charges.

Brakeman Injured in Depot Incident Near Illinois Central

A.B. Williams, an Illinois Central brakeman, was seriously hurt this morning while switching for Conductor John Collins. While atop a box car the train moved off the track, tossing him to the ground, injuring his back and spraining his right arm. He was treated by Dr. Godfrey at the Hatter building, then transported home to Freeport. the full extent of the injuries remained unclear.
