Miners Rescued After Corker Mine Damps Near Platteville
In the Corker mine at Platteville two miners were overcome by dangerous damp gases. Living stone signaled for hoisting, was briefly lifted before collapsing. John Barker attempted rescue and also collapsed. F Tiende descended to bring the three men to the surface. all are now recovering.

Death of Charles Wenner former Galena resident
Charles Wenner aged 85 died in Linden Alabama after months of illness. Born in Württemberg Germany in 1819 he came to the United States at age eight, lived in Pittsburgh and Galena for over sixty years, and died May 24. He leaves four daughters and one son. Funeral was held Sunday at Ross's undertaking rooms with Rev. J. A. Matlack officiating. interment in Greenwood.

The Freeport police noted a burglary at State's Attorney L. H. Burrell's Foley street residence during the parade. About $800 in cash and valuables including two diamond rings and a Swiss watch were stolen. Neighbors saw two suspicious men. Dennis Maher reportedly had $10 pocketed. A man named John Renwick was detained by Captain Silk for acting suspiciously.

Harry McCarty a well known Illinois Central brakeman whose parental home is in this city suffered a painful accident at Rockford Friday evening. He now resides at Freeport and the Bulletin of that place says Harvey McCarthy met with an accident last evening aboard the soldier's special out of Rockford. While passing from one car to another he slammed the door on his thumb, smashing it. He was brought to Freeport for care.
