Mourners fill St Pauls church as Pulford dies by his own hand, ending a suspected link to the Berry murder. The Savanna community debates motive, with officials promising continued investigation and possible rewards to solve the crime.
At an adjourned board meeting Professor B S Asquith was chosen to serve another year as Bellevue principal with a higher salary. Regular session later reelected the staff except Asquith, opposition waned and a week was allowed. Three teachers Miss Jessie Lias Miss A K Bovard and Miss Clara Ahlers resigned in protest. Charles A Chamberlain son of Mr and Mrs G B Chamberlain died after choking and pneumonia. Edward I Cullen, former East Dubuque city marshal, fractured his right leg unloading cattle.
A Milwaukee pair sparked the creation of the Grand Army badge button. Maj. Henry G. Rogers and Lieut. Col. R. B.
