The Savanna community mourns the death of Bot Pulford, wealthy and prominent, who died by self-inflicted gunshot in a hay loft five minutes after leaving his home. Death of Joel Pettigout in Elizabeth Township

Joel Pettigout, a well known resident of Elizabeth township, died Wednesday at his home. He was about 65, born in France and came to this country in 1877, settling on the farm where he died. He is survived by his wife, four sons and one daughter. Funeral Friday at nine o'clock in the morning.

River High Water Reaches Yearly Peak at Dubuque

The Mississippi at Dubuque rises to about 11.5 feet at the draw bridge, the highest level this year since iceout. The rapid increase, about half a foot daily, is fueled by recent rains north of the basin. Officials expect a fall unless northern valley rains recur, with river traffic increasing and boats crowding the bridges while crews navigate the strong current.

Forgetful Woman Leaves Diamonds in Troy Cafe

A woman at a Troy Freeport cafe washed her hands then left eight rings by the washbasin, seven of them diamond rings with about fifteen diamonds total. Waiter Guy Billig alerted her, she hurried back to retrieve them, stating they were worth nearly $1,000 and tipping a dollar.

Platteville Team to Face Galena at Ball Park Saturday

A game is set for Saturday May 27 with Platteville visiting Galena at the Ball Park. An excursion train bearing enthusiastic Platteville fans will arrive before the game via the Northwestern. Loretta Collis closed Rock School for summer, a lawn party honored her. Students gave a gold pen as a token of affection. John Haus remains in variable condition, conscious at times, uncertain prognosis.

Co M plans a carnival at Turner hall Aug 22 to 26 to raise funds for a permanent armory home for Company M. A diamond ring will be sold as a feature. Galena Fair Association chief Charles Scheerer has designated Sept 29 as Co M day with extra events. The effort aims to unite state militia members and raise funds for a new armory building.

Wreck on C B and Q near Rochelle claims brakeman

A branch line collision near Rochelle leaves brakeman George Clark of Prophetstown dead. The engineer suffers a broken shoulder and the fireman nose injuries while feet are scalded. A southbound freight was being switched on Main while a northbound freight rounds a curve and collides with the switched unit.

Irvine Jackman Nuptials At Mrs Irvine’s Home

A wedding was held Wednesday afternoon May 24 at Mrs Robert Irvine’s home for Miss Mable Gertrude Irvine and William H Jackman of Genoa Alabama. Clergyman Rey Ralph Kearns of Warren officiated as 2:30 pm procession featured a parlor ceremony under a smilax and carnation bower. The bride wore pink chiffon over taffeta and pink roses. the groom in black. About 100 guests from Chicago Genoa Janesville Galena and Warren attended. Afterward a wedding repast was served and the couple planned a Wisconsin trip before settling in Genoa Illinois after June 1.

The funeral of Mrs Phoebe S Norris was held Thursday at 2:30 PM from the Turnpike family home with Rev. John Vande Erve and Rev. J A Matlack officiating.
