Galena Sends Aid to San Francisco responders note May 8 letter

San Francisco thanks Galena for a $1069.20 donation sent by American Express. Mayor Scheerer and the city’s finance committee express gratitude and acknowledge future currency receipt. Burlington freight lines will carry relief freight free to Denver and Sioux City, aiding ongoing food and clothing shipments.

Captured an Eagle in East Galena Township

William Ehrler an 18 year old boy of East Galena captured a young eagle in Burton's woods after climbing a 60 foot tree. He brought the bird to town for exhibition at Fred Geyer’s saloon during the carnival, noting eagles have been scarce in the area for years.

Aged Man George Graham Dies in Vinegar Hill Township

George Graham aged 72 of Vinegar Hill township and Jo Daviess county died after a long life of prominence in politics and society. Born in England, he settled near Platteville region and leaves a large family. Funeral was held Tuesday at 2 pm at his home with Rev. Tressider officiating. Burial at Grant Hill cemetery.

Big Jack Mine shown as promising Platteville venture

Boy Disappears After Collecting Money for Father

Clarence Harris, about 18, left home at 11 am and went to Sanford & Zartnap to collect a $15 bill for his father E. C. Harris. He has not been seen since. Police in Freeport and nearby cities were alerted for his return or apprehension. Two years earlier he ran away and was found injured in Dubuque and returned home.

Miss Josie Larkin Dies After Four Week Illness

Miss Josie Larkin of Sinsinawa Mound died at Mercy hospital Dubuque Wednesday night after a four week illness. She was 16, beloved daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Larkin and sister to Bertus Edmund Mamie Stella. Funeral was Saturday at 9 o clock from the parental home to Hazel Green for interment. Also notes 30,000 Americans in Mexico.
