Freight rate case reopened by Illinois rail commission

At a meeting in Springfield the Illinois rail and warehouse commission decided to reopen the freight rate case after three years. April 5 is set for hearings to hear arguments and determine when evidence will be taken. Former Attorney General H J Hamlin and Felix J Streyckmans represent shippers pushing for rate reductions. Opposing railroads argued the case is local and most Illinois shippers are satisfied with the current schedule. Hamlin said petitions backing reductions from 10 000 shippers will be sent to Gov. Deneneen soon. A prior investigation began three years ago with shippers filing complaints and presenting testimony, but no decision was issued. Mrs W S Gleason and son returned from a visit at Winona yesterday.
