Palmer of Milwaukee visited Galena to inspect mines and met with R A Bratton and F B Avery. Masque Ball Crowds Turner Hall in 1905 Grand Event

Turner Hall hosted a lavish masque carnival drawing crowds with a strong police escort, red fires lighting the streets and a parade from Spring Street to Main Street. Zulu Sampson performed strongman feats, prizes awarded for costumes, and the Dubuque Harp Orchestra provided music as about 80 couples danced. Caucus set for March 18, 1905 to nominate local officials with filings due by March 16.

Wreck on Illinois Central in Lena yards

A head on collision between west bound freight No 91 and second section of passenger train No 2 occurred in Lena yards. The passenger engine was badly wrecked and out of service, baggage and mail cars derailed. No fatalities reported and train traffic delayed only marginally due to side track use.

Will Lobeck reported the death of Conrad Winters ex supervisor of Thompson township occurred today. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 11 a.m. in Schapaville. Mr J Dantmore and William Paris depart tonight for Alpine 5 D after a week with relatives in the city and vicinity.
