Growth was slowest from April seedings with later seedings catching up in later stages. Ear size and suckering showed no consistent link to seeding date. Early plantings extended pollen shedding, while silking occurred earlier. State stations confirm corn can be planted after May 1 near Washington without seed rot, with best soil conditions around May 10–20. Hotbeds and cold frames help start vegetables earlier.
