Ohio seeding seed potato imports rise with Farm Bureau aid

Ohio farmers report 20 to 40 carloads of certified seed potatoes for spring planting sold in winter through Farm Bureau and Ohio Farm Federation efforts. Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota supply seed varieties including Petoskey Russet Rural Smooth and Early Ohio, with last year’s imports about five times lower. Demonstrations showed higher yields from certified seed, and planned carload shipments are outlined for Ashtabula, Columbiana, Stark, Hamilton, Richland, and nearby counties.

Robbers Caught at Elkhart Elkhart Swanton duo linked to local thefts

Two men described as suspicious were arrested in Elkhart by Chief Leader and Sheriff Ford after being found with stolen goods from a Swanton post office and local shops. The suspects face federal charges. Also noted is the death of Wm. Dimke at 91, with funeral held at the Luthrean Church and burial in Pettisville cemetery. Wilson Bros. athletic underwear offered at $1.00.

Wauseon Wins In Oratorical Contests Near Finale

Wauseon High School wins in a Fulton County Oratorical contest with Clifford Belding of Wauseon taking first place and earning extra points for the school. The final contest is set for April 14 at Delta to decide the Fulton County Literary Association winner. Archbold leads in points with 24 but cannot win. Metamora faces Archbold in debates as scores tighten.

Fess Defends GOP Record At Fulton County Talk

Hon Simeon D Fess spoke at the Court House Friday evening and to the Exchange Club banquet. He defended the Republican Congress, outlined budget cuts and war-department downsizing, and suggested his candidacy for U S Senate to succeed Atlee Pomerene. He praised veteran aid and noted soldiers’ claims he has helped resolve.

Wauseon Council Advances Insurance Rates and Street Plans

The village council seeks a rating reduction after a 1 acre reservoir with 22 foot depth and new pumping filtration plant increased pressure. Martha A. Horn of Paulding County born December 17 1863 died March 30 1922 after illness aged 58 years 3 months 1 day. She lived in Fulton County from age three and married to Thomas Odin Barnes September 10 1882 with two daughters and two sons. The Barnes store later became Pontius and Barnes with M A Pontius retaining interest.
