Bert Hayward died after his brother Henry, 19, discharged an army revolver at close range on the L Taylor farm south of Winameg. Henry had been snapping an empty gun when a third trigger pull fired into Bert’s abdomen, likely wound to the spine, killing him within minutes. Aged 30, Bert died Monday afternoon. Henry 19 was handling the weapon.
Cincinnati’s Victor Heintz, U S congressman from Ohio’s Second District, left Congress in 1917 to join the Ohio National Guard. He earned the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism near Cierges France on Sept 29 1918 while aiding a wounded soldier. Heintz returned to Washington after a swift flight to New York for a Hays conference and will resume his law practice in Cincinnati.

Private Ray A Emerling of the 42nd Rainbow Division comes home to the United States after 15 months overseas including nine months on the battle front. He was wounded three times with one serious injury requiring hospital care and received an honorable discharge at Camp Sherman.
