Red Cross Drive in Fulton County Seeks Universal Membership

Christmas fund campaign runs all week with booths in Wauseon and street by street canvassing. C. M. Leist directs Fulton Chapter efforts to enlist every adult in the county as Red Cross members, promising a 1919 button and noting fundraising supports hospital services and overseas relief. Private Forrest Proudfoot reports being gassed in France, recovering in hospital after a shell burst, serving as a Scout of Honor and awaiting return home to rejoin friends in Wauseon.

Landlord J Crawford Blair Led Michigan and Pa Hotels

James Crawford Blair a Fulton County hotelman and lumber camp master who lived in Delta and Wauseon built the Blair Hotel and died December 2 1918 at 60 after a long public life. He served as a Mason since 1877 and was honored by local fraternal orders. Funeral services were held under Scottish Rite rituals in Toledo with interment at Waureon cemetery. He left a wife Katherine Kriegl, three brothers, five sisters, nieces and many friends.

Three Branches Letters From Fulton County Service Heroes

Letters from Fulton County soldiers represent three branches of the U S service. Private Noah Kretz of Battery K 7th Field Artillery writes from France dated October 1st detailing artillery life and a prisoner’s gift ring, and notes about comrades and places. Also included is an Engineer notes from France dated Nov 12 1918 describing safe landing and trip with few sick. obituaries follow for local residents including Wm Henry Sherman and Mary Emma Williams with funeral details and community tributes.

Yearly Report Details County Infirmary and Lockups

Fulton County Infirmary praised for improvement under Supt and Mrs Ray Jones. Board notes four annual meetings at the infirmary and urges better upkeep of lockups with airing and cleaning. Heating in tubercular ward deemed inadequate. recommends separate heating store or system improvement. Appointments made to attend State Conference in Columbus, Ohio, December 17, 1918.

Homecoming for Private Harley Werner of Chesterfield

Private Harley Werner of Chesterfield arrived in Wauseon on December 4 year end discharge after fourteen months service. He served at Camp Sherman Camp Pike and Camp Dix in a hospital role and earned high commendations for obedience and conduct. Werner may reenlist in hospital service or seek a civilian orderly position nearby. He is described as a loyal nephew of Uncle Sam.

Williams Sr. Builder of Wauseon Dies at Florida Home

Henry Homes Williams, born Medina County in 1840, died December 9 in Windermere Florida. He founded a Wauseon saw and planing mill that supplied vast lumber for local homes and public buildings, shaping the town’s growth alongside his son and family.
