Treatment of Burns from Explosions by Thymol Method

The method details a burn care protocol by Herr Fuller for severe injuries from firedamp or powder blasts. Steps include a warm bath, thymol wash and sparing, removal of vesicle tips, linseed oil with thymol, and use of a caoutchone mattress to relieve pressure. About two thirds 769 864 served an average of four years while a third 884 932 served about ten months. Records of how many remain alive are not kept. In 1872 the liable number was 303 810 with 80 433 found unfit and 273 377 fit, 156 010 enrolled. From 1872 to 1879 these figures varied only a few thousand.

A Paris trial of an instantaneous fire extinguishing invention drew Gen Pittic representing the republic, Mile Grevy, Gen Jeanningros, the Spanish ambassador, M Caubet head of police, and several senators. The general vote praised the experiments as marvelously successful, notably extinguishing a tar lake of seven thousand pounds in under a minute after flames climbed a third story.
