Schreckengost of Baileyville lost a finger to a felon and had it amputated last Thursday. Gipsies camped near Baileyville claim fortune telling and horse dealing as business. A thoroughbred bull owned by C. M. Knapp near Baileyville strayed, found dead in a south Baileyville cornfield, due to heat and thirst. loss valued as a valuable animal.

Old Settlers Picnic Plans Set for Aug 31 1881
The Thirteenth Annual Meeting of the Old Settlers of Stephenson county and vicinity will be held in Cedarville on Wednesday August 31 1881. It follows the picnic plan with good speakers expected in attendance. A general invitation is extended and the event is praised as a delightful holiday with harvest secured and dinners under the old oaks described as feasts fit for kings.

Death of Gen John A Clark in Kansas City
Gen John A Clark formerly of this city died of cancer at his home in Kansas City on Friday of last week. His remains were brought here Monday with family, followed by a large public turnout. The funeral was held at the Mitchell residence with Dr Jenkins officiating. City Council adopted resolutions praising his integrity and service, noting his long career from circuit clerk to land commissioner. He was born February 20, 1814 in Delaware County New York and leaves a widow, four daughters, and two sons.

The final match between Rockford and the city gun clubs was held last Tuesday in scorching heat. Rockford edged Freeport by ten points as the home team fought tough conditions and some players underperformed. Notable honors went to Dan Miller for poorest score and John Baker for best score. Funeral in City for Mr C A Phillips
The body of Mr C A Phillips of this city, who died in Ishpeming Lake Superior of pneumonia, was brought home for interment Monday. The funeral, at 7 p m, was held despite advanced decomposition. He was brother in law to Mrs A W Ford, leaves a wife and two children, and was an old soldier wounded in service.

West Point Bible Society held its 32nd annual meeting. officers elected and several speakers noted. The city tax stood at 2000 dollars. some locals joined excursions to Clear View prairie.
