Cxtcano Sept 27 Special Illinois Fair tonight warmer cooler Thursday night forecast for the next twenty four hours notes a warmer day following a cooler night with conditions changing through Thursday night.
A party of engineers began a survey today to locate a railroad line between Lyle and Albert Lea to provide direct communication for the Illinois Central road between Dubuque and St Paul. The route will be about twenty miles.
Old Soldier's day at the State fair and Illinois Prisoner's of War association regimental reunions are under way in Sprinakeip. The morning featured a floral parade by city ladies to the fair grounds.
At 9 o'clock this morning the Olympia began the move into the government anchorage. Admiral Dewey stood on the superstructure and repeatedly doffed his cap to the cheering crowds gathered in New York.
Washiton special reports the first session of the pan Presbyterian alliance, opening with 125 delegates representing Presbyterians worldwide. The gathering will span ten days of meetings and discussions.
The cruiser Chicago arrived in New York this morning bringing Rear Admiral Howison, commander of the South Atlantic squadron, to the city.

A noon blaze at the Cochran and Schramling farm two miles from town destroyed all farm buildings except the house. Clarence Alberts rented the place and lost about 15000 dollars of grain, with total damages around 2500 dollars. Thresher separater fire sparked the blaze as workers ate lunch. a lone pump and salt barrel could not curb the flames. Neighbors formed a bucket brigade, but oil buildings, straw, hay, oats, and machinery were consumed. stock was saved.

James M. Sheean of Galena was here today. A number of Freeport residents attended the fair in Galena. Chris Shauer attends the state fair in Springfield. D. A. Knowlton left last night for a business trip to Minnesota and South Dakota.
Mr Edward Quick of the Redpath Bureau in Chicago assists Gen Keagle in promoting the Star entertainment course described as the best talent lineup booked in the city. Enrollment runs to Oct 7 with Oct 15 as the start for the Physical department and junior work. Tickets are 2.00 per year for juniors. Burdette led the “still hunt contest” at the Y M C A marking quick success in securing volunteers.
Abraham Lincoln garrison No 8 elected officers for the term. Geo Meigs as vice president Charles F Bender as commander Charles G Keck as lieutenant commander Charles F Bender as quartermaster. James F Gregory and Elizabeth C Gregory opened Magnetic Healing offices at Stephanson and Chicago. Cherry Blossom camp and Royal Neighbors plan a dance and social on Wednesday night at Neiman Dreyer hall. Admission is 15 cents, 25-3.
Miss Bugs announces a new millinery store opening Monday and Tuesday and continuing all week inviting everyone to attend.
A Durand bank was robbed between 2 and 3 a.m. by three strangers who blasted the vault with dynamite and drills, leaving the safe in ruins and about $4,000 in cash and gold missing. Sheriff Sawyer is investigating with limited crew, while police arrest suspicions in nearby Be loit and Shirland. The Durand bank, led by President H. M. Schorb and cashier George H. York, plans to resume operations once repairs are done.

An odd note questions why a Poole piano worth only 3 seems to clash with cheaper inferior pianos selling in Freeport for 300 to 350 dollars. The short inquiry hints at pricing and market variance in the local piano trade.
Citizens appointed by the mayor to probe Wheeler & Co. water works sale to the city will likely quit the inquiry because Water Co. officials refuse to let the finance committee inspect their books. They concede the statements by Wheeler & Co. are largely correct but refuse to show the latest annual statement to stockholders.
