Cutcano September 28 special report. Tonight and Friday expect rain in the southern portion this afternoon with frost in the western portion tonight. The forecast covers the next twenty four hours with varying precipitation and cold conditions.
Admiral Dewey appeared on the Olympia deck as three hundred fifty Manila veterans received bronze medals awarded by Congress. A Washington committee led by Gen. Miles and Admiral Sampson met Dewey, Gov. Roosevelt welcomed him, and a ceremonial flag transfer honored a historic lineage. Dewey pledged to fly the flag aboard the Olympia in the naval parade.
The Ida Villa branch of the Calcutta girls school supported by American Methodists suffered quake losses. A tea garden loss is estimated at 5,000,000 dollars. A separate report from London notes Smyrna seismic shocks killed about 1,000 and injured 800, with 2,000 houses demolished in two villages.
Manila dispatch reports General MacArthur personally directed the movement against Porac with Wheeler and Wheaton commanding Ninth and Twelfth Seventeenth regiments. Fighting began at daybreak near Angeles, porac fell by 4 p.m. after a half hour of combat. American casualties were five killed and many heat prostrations. insurgent losses unknown with ten Filipinos found dead.

Lonpox Sept 28 Special notes the decision of the walker and of the Orange Free State to join with the Transvaal if hostilities occur. The move would naturally stiffen the Boers in their independent attitude.
Dominion line agents report 250 Montford passengers moved from the Scotsman after it ran ashore near Belle Island in the straits. The Scotsman had arrived from Liverpool when the incident occurred.

In Narotzon Ohio a 60 year old woman Mrs Elizabeth Gehrken claimed she was full of snakes after swallowing one from well water over a year ago. Surgeons removed nine snake like creatures from her intestines, the longest measuring 2 feet 8 inches.
Judge Dibell declared the 1897 horseshoers act unconstitutional, saying it does not give Joliet a method to bring itself under the act. The ruling covers towns with 10,000 to 50,000 population, and State's Attorney Heise has appealed.
Mrs. Maggie Scott Grant died suddenly at 1 pm at her home on Mechanic Street from apoplexy. Aged 43, native of Elery, widow of James Grant. She leaves her husband, mother Mrs. Geo Scott, three sisters in Iowa and Idaho, two brothers, and mentions a related death of John Ratz's two and a half year old daughter. Funeral set for 9 am tomorrow at St. Joseph's church.

Emory Methodist women plan to mend garments for the needy at the Deaconess Home tomorrow afternoon, inviting all interested to bring sewing supplies to 226 North Galena Ave.
Mrs KE L Cronkrite heads Freeport chapter and will attend the annual meeting in Chicago as its representative. If elected she would become a grand chapter officer, an honor her supporters here say deserves recognition for her leadership and success in sustaining a strong chapter.
The Keystone league of the Christian Endeavor society held the sixth annual convention in Chicago at United Evangelical church. Morning Bible study covered Epistle to the Philippians with Rev J Stengel and normal study on prophets. Afternoon talks featured Miss Strickfaden on aiding church service and Rev Walter on Bible use with the unsaved. Other sessions discussed tithing and junior work with several pastors sharing Detroit convention impressions. Evening address by Rev M M Bayles on the Holy Spirit offices per John.
Rev Ii W Read of Jacksonville praises Daniel Shepardson as one of the finest scripture expositors in Chicago. He notes the evangelist’s plain, devotional teaching and the lack of sensational methods. Dr Shepardson to conduct 3 pm Bible readings daily beginning Tuesday. Mrs Shepardson assists as pianist and choir leader.
Sterling High School football team received a morning challenge from Freeport High for a game in Freeport on the 28th. The Sterling squad will likely travel from Mt. Carroll after a Oct. 26 game, with expectations of a large crowd at the ballpark and a strong, well-mannered effort to topple Clinton.
