Paris reports the council of ministers has decided in principle to pardon Alfred Dreyfus. He relinquished his appeal, and the pardon may be proclaimed after his departure abroad to avoid demonstrations. High court investigations into conspiracies continue, Scheurer-Kestner is dead, and public reaction remains muted. Renns notices echo the decision with intense excitement.
More than 1500 union veterans from Illinois Indiana and Ohio arrive in Chattanooga for the dedication of the Indiana monument and Wilder brigade monument and a Wilder brigade reunion. A public reception opens tonight with Mayor Watkins giving the welcome and Gen. Smith D Atkins of Freeport Illinois delivering responses. Dedication ceremonies begin at 10 o clock tomorrow at the Wilder brigade monument site after Indiana monuments are unveiled first.
After weeks of agitation prominent locals pushed the Sunday closing plan, but the Belvidere city council voted 8 to 2 to defeat the ordinance. The crowded chamber heard supporters led by Rev. T W Heyland Rev F M Hubbell Eugene F Sabin and others. Alderman Sheldon sponsor faced threats of boycott amid his AmEx tie. A council resolution condemned personal attacks on Sheldon and upheld his rights as alderman.
Lena Illinois reports social visits from Adeline Kansas and Chicago guests. The 21st annual Stephenson county soldiers and sailors reunion will be held September 26 at the Lena camp grounds auditorium with addresses by Rep. Vespasian Warner and other speakers. Railroads offer reduced reunion fares. visitors from Freeport and Nora also noted.

Sweenys orchestra will perform at Watermans near Pearl City tonight. The annual meeting of the Home Missionary Society of the First M E church is set for Wednesday Sept 20 at 3 oclock for business and officer elections. Tea will be served 5 to 8. Everyone is invited and mite-barrels should be brought to the church Wednesday.
Lydia Furry died at 2:30 AM at 31 American Street after a life spanning Windsor Township York County Pennsylvania birth in 1822. She leaves Samuel and Rudolph Furry and will be buried after a 2 PM service with Rev. Hauser. Also noted is the Philadelphia death of Mrs. Barney Lennon sister of Dr. Thomas Heenan and the cholera infantum death of Cal Kuhns's four month old son. Peter Pickle of Cedarville dies at 9:30 AM aged 75 with funeral set for 2 PM Thursday officiated by Rev. Ludy.
Mount Carroll Illinois September 18 Republicans of Carroll county held a large convention with 166 delegates to fill a vacancy for county treasurer. Four candidates sought the post, but William W Gillespie.

Washington reports yellow fever in Key West as grave with about 50 new cases daily though mortality stays low. A new case is noted in New Orleans today while Surgeon General Sternberg says Havana dispatch indicates the disease is now fully under control.
At the Sovereign Grand Lodge session on September 18 in Detroit little business occurred. When new business was called 60 propositions were presented but all were sent to committees without reading. Next year's Odd Fellows convocation will be held in Richmond Virginia.

The twenty second annual convention of the township Sunday school association will be held at McCannell church on Sunday October 1. Morning program includes prayer with praise by Prof Shaffer, township Sunday school long service by H H Diveley, primary class work by Mrs Laura Fair, normal lessons by J J Bomgardner. Afternoon features praise service by T J Kahl, committee appointments, discussion on whether Sunday schools are up to their privileges by Prof, home department in Sunday school by County President Clingman, and sessions on enthusiasm in Sunday school and teaching experiences, with election of officers and adjournment.

They will perform Martha and the Pirates of Penzance, demanding a guarantee, while efforts are under way to sell enough advance tickets to secure the engagement.
