This morning at the Stephenson street and Galena avenue corner an electric car struck a wagon crossing the track. Driver Wim Harris escaped with his life as the wagon was shattered and the team was stunned but unharmed. Motorman Charles Miller and conductor Dick Johnson defend their speed claiming Harris crossed late. Harris says the car came too fast and warned.
The ninth district WCTU holds its annual convention September 19 to 21 in Belvidere M E church. Delegates send names to Mrs A J Miller. Program opens with welcome addresses by Mrs Georgia Witbeck and Rev S Barngey. Various talks cover young women’s work, temperance, and prohibition efforts, with elections and addresses by speakers including Hon John G Wooley.
Martha Washington Garrison will meet this evening. Freeport Camp and Royal Neighbors will meet tomorrow night. Prof Oronson of Chicago will be here Wednesday to instruct on the piano. A marriage license has been granted to M W Grumm of Leavertown PA and Lottie C Moses of Cedarville. Frank B Sechrist, a graduate of the Freeport College of Commerce, has accepted a bookkeeper position with the firm of Tolland and Asher in this city.

The Northwestern will operate a special train back from Rockford at the end of the opening night performance to benefit Freeporters. The Rockford Star notes Messrs Beatty and Bush are in town preparing for the coming battles of El Caney with a fireworks program featuring ten set pieces. Colonel Fisher will command a dress parade, described as a military treat, while the production uses enormous scenery expected to fill the fair grounds arena during the battle display.
