Much country remains uncovered, insurgents have returned, and hills of towns lie within jungle camps awaiting harassment of garrisons and detachments.

Actress Ada Bothner Dies in Elgin Illinois

Ada Bothner an actress known for Teddy in Hoyt's A Bunch of Keys died at Sherman hospital Elgin Illinois from spinal meningitis after months of travel and overwork. Born in England thirty three years ago she began in opera then moved to comedy and led in The Woods and gained fame in The Bunch of Keys. Her husband Gus Bothner remains in New York awaiting burial arrangements.

Anti-Saloon League Meets Freeport Mayor Over Gambling

Representatives of the Anti-Saloon League urged Mayor Baumgarten to enforce Sunday and after hours gambling laws. The mayor said he ordered police to enforce the laws. Chief Root reported no recent gambling in Freeport. Prior mayors had barred nickel-in-the-slot machines and gambling, and gambling and saloons have not resumed under Baumgarten. The Chief notes saloonkeepers have not lived strictly to the law in years, but gambling groups are leaving and all games have been squelched.

Civil Service Changes Approved at Cabinet Meeting

Washington May 26 Special At the cabinet meeting today the final changes in the civil service order were approved with satisfaction. The order will exempt about 4,000 of 65,000 classified positions.

Frank Barber went to Dubuque to day to begin work with the ball team there. Otto Weinecke and Lynn Griffith went to Coleman today to repair a steam shovel for the I. C. R. RB. The ladies of the W R C are requested to meet to attend memorial service at Embury church Sabbath evening at 7 o'clock p.m. Rev. Chas. G. Smith of Huntsville Ohio will preach at Embury Church Sunday morning. A large number of people are going to Dixon tomorrow morning to take in the field day. A rate of one and one third for the round trip has been secured. All ladies are invited to meet with the ladies of the W R C Monday in Fry's block vacant room to make wreaths bringing flowers. Warren Hea of this city met with an accident at Oshkosh Wednesday in which he sprained his ankle and fractured his arm. He was brought home last evening and is resting today. The best remedy is Syrup of Figs by the California Fig Syrup Co.
