Reports from Samoa say hostilities are suspended pending arrival of international peace commissioners with orders for a joint proclamation. Mataafa withdraws to a safe strip as truce nears. In the Philippines General Otis says Lawton holds Baliuag after a rapid push, with rebels scattered. MacArthur advances on San Fernando and San Tomas falls after strong resistance. Summers and Wheaton are wounded, and estimates place Luna’s forces under heavy pressure. McKinley hints at possible extra session for currency measures.
Chattanooga May 4 special Georgia dedicated a handsome monument to commemorate Georgians who fought at Chickamauga. Gen H V Boynton, chairman of the Chickamauga Chattanooga park commission, Governor Chandler and other Georgians took part in the ceremonies.
Illinois Grand lodge of United Workmen visited Rock Island arsenal at 8 this morning. After a long session to finish business, officials announced Danville as next meeting site in May 1901. Salary levels set for grand master 600, grand recorder 4500, grand receiver 300. An official organ will be established. Officers elected include Grand master Frank J.
