German Gough Horses Trade Signals Strong Demand

German Valley dealer Ulfert Poppen sold three German coach stallions to J Crouch & Son of Lafayette Indiana, a firm that had previously bought three from Poppen. A German paper notes stallion exams at Aurich on February 7 drawing many buyers from Holland Italy and Britain with prices reaching 8500 5000 and 4500 marks. The German coach breed is praised for noble form strength and tractable harness qualities, with Hanover stud central to breeding efforts begun in 1735 at Celle marking 150th anniversary 14 years ago.

A Strange Case James McCabe Dies at Home on Iroquois Street

James McCabe died after a fifteen week illness at his Iroquois Street home. The cause remains unclear though headaches and long unconsciousness marked the illness. Born in Eagle Wisconsin he would have been thirty two in July. He lived in Forreston and, since moving to the city as a youth, worked for Bongye Schwarz fourteen years after early employment with C H Little. He leaves a wife and three children Edward Mary and Florence, his father John McCabe, a sister Mary of this city and a brother John of Dubuque. Funeral from the house at 9 then St Marys church at 3 30 with Rev Father DuFour officiating. An old gentleman named John Hensing of the Third ward died this afternoon.
