Governor Tanner sends message urging Legislature for 1000000 dollar appropriation to repair the Lincoln Monument. House passes a quarter million to cover pay disparities for Illinois volunteers and 65000 for supplies while in Springfield. Both chambers approve joint resolution delaying final adjournment to April.
Secretary Long stated he has no information supporting claims that Admiral Dewey is breaking down. Officers who returned from Manila have not denied that he has aged notably in the past year, with his sixtieth birthday approaching next December and concerns about his health due to long years of service.

Marion Iowa resident Frank Conner reports Frank Liddle once driven to insanity by a brain abscess has undergone surgery to remove the infection. Physicians indicate the operation restored his reason and his wife also recovers. Henry Melchior notes the couple hopes to be united soon as a sample room opens at the Galena street and avenue corner.
